Let’s face it: Though rewarding, therapy can be a lonely profession.
In many clinical settings, therapists are either working for themselves in private practice, or as a contractor for a provider. While these environments have their own benefits, they can make it difficult to feel a sense of community and belonging at work.
At Two Chairs, our clinical community is made up of employees, not contractors, who benefit from a strong community of fellow clinicians and managers — which is part of what makes practicing therapy at Two Chairs different. And we’re committed to making that sense of community even stronger.
Today, I’m excited to announce the launch of our employee resource groups, or ERGs.
While ERGs are common in tech and other larger organizations, they may be a new concept for clinicians. Keep reading to learn what ERGs are, why they’re important, and which ones may interest you the most if you become a clinician at Two Chairs.
What is an employee resource group?
An ERG is a network of employees who share a common identity, characteristic, or set of interests. ERGs are employee-led, self-directed, voluntary groups that offer employees opportunities for community, networking, mentoring, and career development.
ERGs are an important part of a strong culture because they elevate the feeling of belonging and inclusivity for our people.
Why are employee resource groups important?
These groups can benefit employee experience in a lot of ways. Some of them include:
- Support and community: ERGs provide a safe space for employees to connect, share experiences, and build meaningful relationships with colleagues who share their unique perspectives.
- Professional growth: ERGs offer mentorship opportunities, career development resources, and a platform to showcase skills and leadership potential.
- Innovation and inclusion: ERGs bring diverse ideas and experiences to the table, fostering a more inclusive work environment and driving innovation.
- Employee satisfaction: ERGs help people feel valued and supported and can significantly improve employee morale, engagement, and retention.
What employee resource groups can I join at Two Chairs?
As our team grows, so will the groups we offer. As of now, our employee resource groups include:
Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) Employee Resource Group
This is a space where we empower and amplify the voices of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) at Two Chairs. We foster a vibrant and inclusive community where members can connect, share experiences, and advocate for a more equitable workplace. Through professional development, mentorship, and cultural celebration, we advance BIPOC representation and success at all levels of the organization.
Caregivers Employee Resource Group
This ERG is a space for Two Chairs employees juggling work and family, a tapestry woven from diverse experiences yet bound by one thread: love. Together, we advocate for work-life balance that reflects our values as a mental health company, shaping policies that nurture both our families and ourselves.
Neurodivergent Employee Resource Group
This is a space where we build the bridge to belonging for neurodivergent individuals at Two Chairs. We foster a supportive and inclusive environment where members can connect, share experiences, and celebrate neurodiversity. Through advocacy, education, and professional development, we empower neurodivergent employees and create a workplace that recognizes and leverages their unique strengths.
Pride Employee Resource Group
This ERG is a thriving and inclusive space for LGBTQIA+ employees at Two Chairs. We embrace diversity, celebrate individuality, and foster a sense of belonging. Through advocacy, education, and professional development, we’re creating a workplace where everyone feels valued, respected, and empowered to be their authentic selves.
Women Employee Resource Group
This is a space that highlights the collective power of women at Two Chairs. We cultivate a supportive and empowering community where women can connect, grow, and thrive. Through mentorship, professional development, and advocacy, we champion gender equity and shape an inclusive workplace where all women reach their full potential.
These employee resource groups are only one facet of our diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging strategy. I look forward to continuing to work with our team on ERGs and other initiatives to make Two Chairs a truly diverse, equitable, and inclusive place to work for clinicians and others from all backgrounds.
